Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard brought one of gaming’s biggest franchises, Call of Duty, into the Xbox ecosystem. Fans quickly expected the entire CoD library to flood into Xbox Game Pass overnight. Years after the deal closed, however, many beloved entries in the series remain locked away and have yet to join the Game Pass catalog. Today, we’re breaking down eight Call of Duty games still missing from the subscription service, and why players are still waiting.
It’s important to start with context. Microsoft has steadily added newer Call of Duty releases to Game Pass, alongside some older classics. Modern Warfare II (2022), Modern Warfare III (2023) and Warzone are already available for subscribers. But the library is far from complete. Many fan-favorite campaigns and iconic multiplayer experiences are still not included.
First on the list is Call of Duty 2. This landmark WWII title defined the early Xbox 360 era. Its fast, cinematic campaign was revolutionary for its time, and many long-time CoD fans hold it in high regard. Despite its legacy, it has not made its way to Game Pass.
Next is Call of Duty: World at War. This gritty WWII entry introduced the fan-favorite Zombies mode to the franchise. The brutal Pacific and Eastern Front campaigns still hold up well today. Many players hoped World at War would arrive shortly after the Activision deal, yet it remains absent.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) is another huge omission. This is the classic MW2, not the 2022 reboot. Iconic missions like No Russian, legendary maps such as Rust and Terminal, and a wildly popular multiplayer sandbox made it one of the most famous FPS games ever made. It’s strange to see the reboot versions on Game Pass while the original stays out.
Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) is also missing. The mind-bending single-player campaign, great multiplayer maps and compelling Zombies mode cemented Black Ops as a staple of the franchise. It is one of the most requested CoD games among Game Pass subscribers.
We also have Call of Duty: Black Ops II. With its branching story paths and multiple endings, Black Ops II pushed the series forward narratively. Its multiplayer balance and Zombies maps are still praised by the community, and many players want to revisit it through Game Pass.
Call of Duty: Ghosts sits at number six. While it had a mixed reception at launch, its unique campaign and Extinction mode still have a dedicated fanbase. It remains unavailable on the subscription platform.
Seventh is Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The exosuit gameplay completely changed how CoD multiplayer played. Kevin Spacey’s performance in the campaign made it memorable, and it is still missing from Game Pass.
Last on our list: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. This sci-fi CoD had a fantastic, underrated single-player story, even though it faced backlash at launch. Many gamers now look back on it fondly and want to play it via Game Pass.
So why haven’t these games been added? There are a few factors. Licensing agreements, old engine compatibility, remaster plans and asset cleanup can slow down re-releases of older games. Some of these titles also have separate remastered versions, which may complicate the rollout strategy. Microsoft has not shared a firm timeline for adding these legacy Call of Duty titles.
Wrap-up
Game Pass already has a solid selection of recent Call of Duty games, but the classic back catalog still has major gaps. These eight titles represent some of the most memorable moments in the franchise’s long history. Fans continue to hope Microsoft will gradually bring these older CoD games to Game Pass in the future. Until then, players will need to buy them separately if they want to revisit these classic campaigns and multiplayer matches.
